Jamie Ursulak
UPDATE: After flying over 4400 hours, Jamie was recently hired by Air Canada to fly the DASH 8 – his favourite plane. Jamie remains the person responsible for maintenance at Cobalt Aviation.
Jamie Ursulak, along with his business partner Erissa Yong, is a Director of Cobalt Aviation. Specific roles that Jamie fulfills at Cobalt Aviation include: Accountable Executive (AE), Class 1 pilot instructor (CFI), Person Responsible for Maintenance (PRM), and in the future, Authorized Person (AP), so that he can complete licencing paperwork on behalf of Transport Canada for students who passed their tests and exams.
Born and raised in the lower mainland of Beautiful British Columbia, Jamie has been involved in aviation for seven years. His aviation career began in 1999 during his grade 12 school year when he completed a work experience program at Transport Canada’s hangar on the south-side of the Vancouver International Airport; this experience involved washing the aircraft and hangar floor, as well as going along on flights on Transport Canada’s Twin Otter and Bell helicopter.
After graduating, Jamie spent from September 1999 to June 2000 at Douglas College in general studies as he concurrently completed his Private Pilot Licence. In the summer of 2000, he worked as a Ramp Agent for Hudson General (which became GlobeGround, and is now Penauille Servisair) at Vancouver International Airport loading and unloading aircraft such as the Boeing 737, 757, and 767, Airbus A319, A320, and A310, and McDonnell Douglas (Boeing) MD80’s, for various airlines.
From September 2000 until June of 2002, Jamie completed an Aviation Diploma: Instructor Option, from the University College of the Fraser Valley (UCFV). This provided Jamie with his Commercial Pilot’s Licence, Instructor Rating, and studies in Business Administration.
Following his graduation, Jamie obtained employment at a flight school at Pitt Meadows Regional Airport where he worked for two years as a Flight Instructor and Charter Pilot; here he gained invaluable experience instructing and flying charter flights to locations such as Victoria, Nanaimo, Powell River, Courtenay, and Grand Forks. While working here, Jamie continued his studies at UCFV part-time obtaining a Diploma in Liberal Arts. Jamie left the flight school in the end of 2004 to go to UCFV full time to complete his Bachelor’s Degree and upgrade his Pilot Licence and Ratings.
Going back to full-time studies in January of 2005, Jamie graduated in June of 2005 with a Bachelor of General Studies degree. During this period, he also obtained his Multi-Engine, Multi-Engine Instrument Flight Rules, and Class 1 Instructor Ratings. He wrote his Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL) exams and will obtain his ATPL by the end of 2006.
Since graduating from UCFV, Jamie has been working on establishing Cobalt Aviation. Jamie is also actively flying for Pacific Coastal airlines as a commercial pilot in BC.
