Night Rating
Obtaining your Night Rating is a very enjoyable way to enhance your skill and qualifications. Night flying is a more peaceful way to experience flight for several different reasons: there are less aircraft in the air, the aircraft that are in the air are easier to see, the air is generally smoother, and of course the lights of downtown Vancouver are beautiful. The Night Rating is included in the Commercial Pilot Licence.
PREREQUISITES FOR ENROLLMENT
In order to begin training for the Night Rating, you must be at least 17 years of age and hold a medically valid Private Pilot Licence.

1 We hold the ground school when there are enough people enrolled. If this doesn’t work for you, you can complete the ground school on a one-on-one basis with an instructor; however, this will cost more as you will be charged according to our ground briefing rate of $45/hr.
2 This is an estimate. The amount of dual time required is dependent on many factors.
3 This is an estimate. The amount of solo time required is dependent on many factors.
4 This is an estimate. For every dual flight there is about 30 minutes of briefing time. Each dual flight is approximately one hour. For example, with 15 hours of dual there are approximately 15 dual flights; therefore, there is about 7.5 hours of briefing (one half-hour for each dual flight).
5 This is the fee payable to Transport Canada for issuing the rating ($35).
FEE SCHEDULE
The dual flight training, solo flight training, and ground briefings can be paid for on either a pay-as-you-go basis, or you can put money on your account with us and costs will be deducted from your account as they arise. You will also need to enroll in ground school at some point (we strongly recommend doing it before your flight training); the cost is $50. We accept Visa, MasterCard, Debit, and Cash.
The Transport Canada fee is payable to the Receiver General of Canada and are due when the application for the Night Rating is submitted.
STARTING
Once you’ve decided that you want your Night Rating, come on in to our hangar and talk to us. If you decide to start your training, you can enroll in our ground school and book your first lesson with us. This lesson will be longer than the rest as we explain how everything operates and discuss the training program in more detail.
